“SEEING IS BELIEVING, and those who catch a glimpse of Groovystuff’s creativity and dedication
to the furniture industry are captivated. The viewer sees a range from casual to exotic reflected in
the Groovystuff collection. Designer and Pacesetter Chris Bruning has found a way to bring the
craftsmanship and artistry of the Thai people to the forefront of today’s furniture industry. The
Groovystuff team of professionals ignite the market with passion and profitability. With the introduction
of new products and collections at each market, Groovystuff pursues a path of commitment to the retailer.
Furniture with longevity, style, and value form the backbone of each unique collection. Visit Groovystuff
at any of the markets listed and step into a world of imagination as they transform plantation teak and
farm implements from a bygone era into contemporary and organic furnishings. Seeing is Believing.”
“About The Product
For those looking for the secret to the exquisite beauty of our re-claimed teakwood furniture, the answer
is simple. All it takes is the time and touch of Mother Nature. Antique Farm implements, yokes, plows,
sugarcane grinders, and wagons from a bygone era provide the framework for the interpretations you see
in our furniture today. For many years, this wood was not available to the public. Only recently has this
vintage prized wood come to market. Soon demand will exceed supply, and the vintage collection you
see in its purity today will be reduced to accents of varying degree. Each piece you see is designed for
today’s lifestyle from yesterday’s antiquities. The rich colors and tight grains of this ancient teakwood
combine to form the unique character and patina of this collection. Suited for both indoor and outdoor
use, Groovystuff furniture provides the atmosphere and character you need to create a rugged earthy look.
If kept outdoors, your collectible will turn silver gray as only mature teakwood does. These hints of gray
add identity to each piece, but can be easily re-nourished with a fresh coat of Briwax once a season or to
your taste. Congratulations on your newest discovery.”
Groovystuff's Goal
Our ultimate goal is to build brand recognition and ultimately brand equity from the alliance. Dick
Idol Brands goal is to refine our products to meet a more contemporary/modern demographic of end
users using the recycled materials we possess. To do this, they have a business model that aligns all
the individual brand partners together for a coordinated launch in April of 2011. Each of the individual
brand partners will provide a synonymous product to go into a room setting that will complete the
entire room. For example, Shadow Mountain Furniture will provide the case goods, Pacific Coast
Lighting will provide the lighting, Surya Rugs will provide area rugs, and GROOVYSTUFF will initially
provide accessories, accents, and occasional home furnishings to complete the story of the room. All
of the licensees will coordinate their efforts around the flat art and bronze statues that Dick Idol will
launch for his 10 year anniversary in the home furnishings industry, April 2011. The brand partners
will meet during the High Point Market in October of this year to discuss the strategy and vertical
alignment for 2011. The licensees will address two vertical markets in the rustic category, modern
rustic and traditional rustic. GROOVYSTUFF is tasked with developing a product that is in line with
the Dick Idol brand for both of these categories for all rooms inside and outside the home. Over time,
GROOVYSTUFF will expand into the wall decor, lighting and case goods categories that do not compete
with the existing licensee products.
The Brief
Design an accessory, accent, or occasional home furnishing that utilizes or reconfigures the reclaimed
material that exemplifies GROOVYSTUFFs product line. The incorporation of other sustainably
harvested woods such as plantation Teak and ChumCha (Asian Mahogany) is encouraged. The
designs should address two vertical markets in the rustic category, modern rustic and traditional
rustic but should not infringe on the product lines of the partner licensees. The design should also
complement the flat art and bronze statues created by Dick Idol.
